If You Like the Handmaid’s Tale, You’ll LOVE Alias Grace!

Fans of the Handmaid’s Tale will be excited to see another of her novels – Alias Grace – come to life onscreen. The acting so far really impressed me and I already want more. The four minute trailer has me convinced I will be completely smitten with this series and I will be firmly planted on my sofa to watch it through. I can hardly wait! 

The opening sequence reveals the quality of the performance viewers will enjoy as ALIAS GRACE premiers on  Monday, September 25 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC. Sarah Gadon delivers a haunting portrayal of Grace Marks. Want to see for yourself? International friends will be very excited that ALIAS GRACE will stream globally outside of Canada on Netflix in Fall 2017 following the CBC premiere. It is a CBC and Netflix original production, executive produced by Sarah Polley (Road to Avonlea flashbacks anyone?),  Mary Harron and Noreen Halpern, with D.J. Carson producing as well.

I have always wondered if it’s better to read the book before the movie or the other way around. With the current political climate, the work of Margaret Atwood has become more and more relevant, and this film is based on her award-winning novel (as well as inspired by true events.) This rendition of  ALIAS GRACE was written and produced by Sarah Polley (Take This Waltz, Away from Her) and directed by Mary Harron (American Psycho, I Shot Andy Warhol).

What can you expect to see? The six-hour series tells the story of Grace Marks (Sarah Gadon), a young, poor Irish immigrant and domestic servant in Upper Canada who — along with stable hand James McDermott (Kerr Logan) — finds herself accused and convicted of the infamous 1843 murders of her employer, wealthy farmer Thomas Kinnear (Paul Gross), and his housekeeper, Nancy Montgomery (Anna Paquin). Also featured are Edward Holcroft (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Wolf Hall); Rebecca Liddiard (Houdini & Doyle); Zachary Levi (Chuck, Tangled); and David Cronenberg. I can hardly wait to see it!
