In the world of 24/7 connectivity; of social media and email, not to mention TV,…

I’ve been to my fair share of professional development conferences and workshops. I think they play an incredibly important role in your career, whether you are an entrepreneur running your own business or you have a specific role as part of a much larger company. Every year I sit down and plan out which events I’ll be attending, and the ones that make the cut have to meet at least 2 of these 3 requirements.
Criteria for Choosing a Marketing Conference
- Price
- Content
- Location
When looking at Blog conferences and Marketing conferences (I try to attend at least 2 of each, every year), there are more to choose from than I could possibly hope to attend in 100 years, let alone 1. It can be a difficult decision to make, but this year it was so simple. There was 1 conference that stood way out from the pack and ticked every box on my list. That is the Canadian Internet Marketing Conference (CIMC). Here are the 3 reasons why you MUST attend this event:
- Price: I’ve had my eye on the CIMC for a while now, and I’ll admit that the price tag of $799 scared me off at first. Then I dug a little deeper and discovered that the typical marketing conference pass will set you back anywhere from $1,200 – $3000+, not including meals, accommodations, travel and all the other accessories that go along with it. The CIMC is the best priced conference out there, in Canada, US or overseas. When you factor in the fact that you’re paying Canadian dollars instead of US either means you avoided a nasty surprise when you calculate the exchange rate (adding an extra 30-40% on to you bill), or if you’re coming from the States, you just scored an incredible deal!
- Content: You may wonder, given this great price, if that means the content is lacking compared to other – more expensive – conferences. Thankfully this is not the case with the CIMC. Their line up of speakers includes heavyweights like the Head of Marketing from Google, PR + Communications Manager from Etsy and the Manager of PR & Broadcast Programming from Disney Parks. They’ll be covering topics such as “Where Digital Marketing is Headed”, “Creating Brand Buzz in a Multi-Channel World” and “Twitter for your Business”. I’m most excited to hear the PR Partnerships and The Future of Influencer Marketing presentations. So whether you’re looking for content on social media, content marketing, press relations, digital marketing, working with influencers or all of the above, there is something for everyone!
- Location: The Canadian Internet Marketing Conference is held each year in Squamish, BC, Canada by host sponsor Marwick Internet Marketing – this time falling on the 14th and 15th of April, 2016. Location is important mostly as it relates to point #1. When the venue placement can add $500+ to my ticket cost, you’d better believe I’m staying close to home. With Squamish being in my backyard, loosely speaking, it makes the travel, meal and accommodation costs much less significant as well. So whether you’re coming from east or central Canada, or the West Coast, the CIMC in ideally located for you!
These are all very compelling reasons to join the CIMC in Squamish, but I’ve got one more. 30% off. That’s right, get your tickets now using the discount code LLP30 and you’ll get 30% off your ticket price! Not only that, but 2 lucky winners will each receive a complimentary ticket to the Canadian Internet Marketing Conference. Enter below for your chance to win!
Special thank you to the CIMC Title Sponsor’s for making this event possible:

Thanks for the post! A great article and a good way to evaluate what conference is right for your biz.
Thanks for reading 🙂
I’m looking forward to hearing Janelle Saccucci and Jennifer Powell the most!
Great picks!
So hard to choose just one! I’ve always been very impressed by the experiential marketing that WestJet does so the talk by Greg Plata has to be up there on my list.
It’s impossible to choose just one!
#1 would be Fab Dolan, as I’m sure everyone’s answer is! However I’d also love to meet Christian from Marwick Marketing, Jennifer Powell from Blissdom, and Angela from Disney Parks!
Yes! Those are on the top of my list too
I’m most excited to hear from Gabriel Mederos from TELUS!
Great choice!
This is so exciting!! I attended CIMC last year and was thoroughly impressed by the speakers and the amount of new knowledge I walked away with. Would LOVE to hear Fab Dolan speak again!
You’re a veteran! Hope to see you there 🙂
Looks like a great lineup of speakers!
Would love to hear from Greg Plata of WestJet about their experiential marketing campaigns!
That will be a good one!
Yes!
i would love to hear from Mikey Scott of Herschel – what a great brand!
One of my faves!
I want to see Scott Ahmed, because we went to University together, the same years, and I had NO idea he was brand managing a brand I worked for! I’d love to reconnect and hear him speak.
Small world!
If I were to go I would definitely be running around like a crazy person trying to hear from everyone. BUT if I were to choose I’ve always admired WestJet’s marketing presence so Greg Plata for sure. Also Christina Crook, I loved The Joy of Missing Out. Gabe Mederos, Fab Dolan, Scott Ahmed, Peter Housley…. Ah!
So many right?!
Would love to hear Janelle Saccucci from Blenz speak.
It’s gonna be a good one!
Since I don’t know a lot of the speakers, I find that a big draw. So many conference feature people I already know and/or have seen before. I want to be introduced to NEW people and ideas!
But what I’m most excited about? That the conference is in BC, especially in Squamish. What a beautiful place! And a reasonable drive from the Okanagan too ;0)
Great point Ange, it is exciting to see new speakers!
