It is my 9 month old's first Christmas this year and I am so excited!…
If you’re anything like me, you put a lot of thought and effort into the gifts you buy in the holiday season, especially when it comes to the under 5 set. My kids have enough junk to last them a lifetime so when I’m picking something out for them it needs to check off at least one of the following boxes on my ‘gift quality’ checklist; educational, practical (yes I’m that mom), or long lasting so it can be passed down to others. When I showed my checklist to the lovely ladies at Boomers and Echoes Kids and Maternity, not only did they not laugh at me, but they had awesome gift and stocking stuffer ideas for babies and kids that passed even my tough muster and then some! Here is what they suggested:
Imp Prints co. Paint Swab – I would file this under long lasting. When you make a keepsake of with your child’s hand or foot, it is meant to be around forever! These paint swabs make it super easy to do and clean up, and are non toxic! I have a feeling this is something I’ll put in my kids stockings ever year, creating a new holiday tradition.
Bummis Super Brite Diaper Covers & Potty Pants– This definitely falls under the practical category! Cloth diapering is a money saver in the long run, but the up front cost can be daunting for some budgets, so I love the idea of stuffing stockings with cloth diapering necessities. Your baby is happy to pull things out of the stocking, they don’t care so much what it is! Your big kid will love the super trim potty pants that look and feel more like underwear to facilitate the transition from diapers to fully potty trained.
Dwingular Playmat – These non toxic foam playmat are both practical and long lasting. It is the perfect piece for baby’s play area so they can get that much needed tummy time and stimulation while avoiding all the bumps and bruises that can come along with learning how to hold your head up, sit up and crawl! It grows with your child with it’s customizable, playful design that can include letters, and numbers, shapes to identify and words to read! Best of all, Dwingular playmats are formaldehyde, heavy metal and pthalate free unlike traditional puzzle style mats so you get the gifts of peace of mind while giving the gift of play!
A is for Aboriginal Book – A beautifully written and illustrated book, it checks off the educational box with it’s interesting tidbits of of native history and tradition. This is a book you can feel really good about giving as for every book purchased, one is donated to a family living in poverty that can not afford it. A definite must have on every child’s library shelf!
MyMayu Boots – One of the newest products at Boomers and Echoes, these 3 season boots are both practical and long lasting. Designed by local North Vancouver parents, MyMayu’s line of Muddy Munchkin boots are waterproof, lightweight and flexible to let your little one explore in all kids of weather without being tripped up by clunky footwear. With this gift your little munchkins will stay warm, dry and on the go.
Itzy Ritzy Snack bags – Having kids on the go means having snacks on the go and these waterproof, machine washable bags are the perfect container to take them in. They are free of BPA, lead and PVC and come in a wide variety of colours and patterns making it a stylish and safe option for little ones of all ages. The zipper closure also makes it easy for kids to get into themselves helping them be a bit more independent when out with friends or at school!
