My oldest daughter has never been a big doll fan. Right from day 1, she…
I have yet to meet a little girl (or boy for that matter) who doesn’t love singing and dancing around. Many kids dream of becoming pop stars through their play – how fun would it be to make that dream come true for a day?!
When we were looking at options for my daughter’s 7th birthday, she had been talking about how much fun she’d had when we had a little Rock ’n Roll party at our house. I thought it would be a great idea to incorporate music into the party again, but on a bigger scale. Hosting it at home wasn’t an option – we didn’t have the space, and unlike with our Movie Themed Party, the cost of renting the equipment is prohibitive. Then I remembered that Creativ Music Centre, where Adri took her piano lessons, had the perfect solution. A Pop Star Party!
Planning a Pop Star Themed Birthday Party
The first step to planning our Pop Star Themed Birthday Party was to decide whether we wanted to record a CD or make a music video as the featured activity of the party. Our group of friends attending the party all loved to dance, so the idea of working with a choreographer to learn a routine that would be featured in the video was a big hit!
Next was choosing the food and cake. Whenever we’re doing an on-site birthday party, my biggest considerations are portability and mess! With both of these things in mind, I chose to bring in 3 food trays from our local grocery store; one fruit, one veg and one sandwich. Add in some pretzels, drinks and the cake and we were set! If we had wanted, Creativ Music Centre also offers a pizza and drink add-on with their packages so it’s one less thing for you to worry about!
Venue and food taken care of, the next item on the to-do list was goodie bags. The Pop Star Birthday Parties at Creativ Music Centre have a built-in goodie bag with each guest taking home their own copy of the CD or DVD that they record. How cool is that! Understandably, they need time to be created and aren’t available until a bit after the party so I wanted a little something for each guest to take home. I popped by my local dollar store for inspiration and wasn’t disappointed. I found some super blinged out lanyards, and created “Backstage VIP Passes” for each of the guests. They also went home with mini autograph books with their names on the front and a funky pen. All totalled I spent $38 – just $4.22 per goodie bag.
Now this was the easy part….well for me at least, I didn’t have to do anything! I got to sit back and watch as the staff at Creativ Music Centre transformed our group of excitable girls into the super cool Courageous 8 (their new band name). The fun started with choreography where the group learned a short dance routine that would be incorporated into the video. Then the makeup artist came in (yes, make up artist), and did a little eyeliner and eyeshadow for each of the girls (full makeup is an option but this was just right for our group).
After choreography and makeup it was showtime! Filmed on a green screen, the girls did their group moves, were coached in singing their individual lines, plus lots of other fun scenes. The 2 hours flew by! Once the shooting was wrapped, we headed into the party room to refuel our pop stars with food, drinks and, of course, cake!
Then was the wait for the video. All the girls were counting down the days until they could see themselves on the big screen, and the finished product did not disappoint. See our very own home-grown celebs here:
I can’t say enough about the entire experience from start to finish. All of the staff that we worked with were incredibly professional, yet fun and engaging with our group that ranged from 5-9 years old. They had incredible patience with our rowdy bunch! I was particularly impressed with the video they created. Understandably when you’re working with a group of young, hyper kids, they get distracted, forget their lines and dance moves and are just plain silly. None of this bothered me (or them), all that mattered was that they had fun, but I didn’t think it would make for very good video content. I was wrong! The staff at Creativ worked their magic to give us this beautiful video that all the girls love – complete with an “interview” of the band and deleted scenes! The girls ask to watch it over and over, and can’t wait to go back again.
