The Emotional Rollercoaster of Netflix Cheating

“Sometime I cheat.” Not in like a bad way, or at least not in the earth-shattering way that ruins lives. Not like on my taxes or in my relationship or in a game of cards. The truth is, sometimes I cheat with my remote and peek ahead on Netflix when my husband isn’t home. He works shifts. It’s not an excuse, it’s a fact. There are times we aren’t home at the same time and I need to entertain myself. This is the rollercoaster I go through when I’m left unsupervised. 

I promise I won’t watch ahead while he’s at work. Pinky swear, in fact. 

I start off with the best of intentions, but his shifts feel really long. When I feel like I can’t do anymore work, I want to chill out and rest a while. I could read, but at that point, I’m lazy. I want to be spoon-fed my entertainment. 

I get tempted. It’s so irresistible. I want to know what happens next in my series. I need to know. I am powerless to the suspense. 

I convince myself nobody will ever know. I will take this secret to my grave. 

I give in to the overwhelming temptation and soon an otherwise dull evening becomes the best night ever! WOOHOO!

Then I feel bad. I know deep down that I shouldn’t have done it. Shame and guilt start to creep in. I’m planning my apology. It’s like the Tell Tale Heart all over again, I’m all Edgar Allen Poe up in here. 

I vow not to be so weak the next time. This will not happen again. I will not allow it. I will resist!

So yes, sometimes I cheat. I’m not proud of it, but it’s part of life as the wife of a shift worker, human and prone to temptation sometimes. I always swear I won’t get on that rollercoaster again, but Netflix gets me every time.
